For Athletes . . .
Athletes at every level of play will find the equipment, facility, and expertise that they need to complete their rehab and return to play as soon as possible. Brad is an "SCS" - that stands for "Sports Certified Specialist", which is an advanced credentialing provided by the American PT Association - it's a big accomplishment! Jeff has experience in all areas of sports rehab, from treatment of Division I and professional athletes to recreational and youth league athletes.  Regardless of their level of play, every athlete will benefit from our therapists' extensive background in athletic training, as well as their many years experience in sports physical therapy.

Specialized Physical Therapy boasts a full-sized pitching/throwing tunnel for special analysis and treatment of throwing athletes. High speed video analysis (in addition to an in-depth physical exam) can be used to determine the cause of the injury (faulty mechanics vs. overuse) as well as the best plan for rehabilitation.  If you hope to recover from your injury and return to the playing field as soon as possible, Specialized Physical Therapy is the place to be.

We believe in a team approach to sports rehab at Specialized PT. Ongoing communication between the physical therapist, the athlete, the coach, the parents and the physician is encouraged and facilitated as the athlete progresses through their rehab program.

For Orthopedic Post-Surgical Recovery . . .
Orthopaedic post-surgical patients will find the one-on-one time that they need with a qualified, caring therapist. Specialized Physical Therapy will assist you in your recovery to maximize your potential and return to function. Rotator cuff repairs, total joint replacements, knee reconstructions (for example ACL reconstruction) are just few of the post-surgical diagnoses that are well suited for treatment at Specialized Physical Therapy.

For Overuse Injuries . . .
These are usually the “-itis” problems . . . words you’ve probably heard before, such as  “bursitis”, “tendonitis”, tennis elbow, and “little league elbow”. The specialists at Specialized PT will help to identify the source of the problem and get you on the right track for rehab.

Check back to PTomaha.com frequently for new information regarding the latest research and recommendations on injury prevention and reduction—look for the menus on the right side of our home page, such as: "Injuries and Conditions", "Sports Activities", and "Work Activities" - it's an excellent source of information - for inquiring minds who want to know more!

For Back and Neck Pain . . .
Jeff has developed an innovative and effective approach to low back pain rehab. Over the years, he has found such success with his own method of spine rehab, that he founded a continuing education company, called Heartland Seminars, Inc.  Through his company, he has even been able to share this expertise with other physical therapists throughout the Midwest (though he has not been teaching over the past few years - since opening Specialized PT in 2008, has been very busy taking care of pateints!).  Whether your pain has been long-standing or is associated with a new injury, Specialized Physical Therapy will evaluate your condition and determine the appropriate course of treatment.

For Pelvic Floor Issues . . .
The pelvic floor muscles support the pelvic organs for urination, bowel movements, and sexual function.  They act as one of your "core" muscles along with your abdominals, back, and hip muscles, as well as your respiratory diaphragm.  Pelvic floor problems are common in both men and women -- but they can be successfully treated with physical therapy.  Some of the diagnoses in this category are:  urinary incontinence, bowel incontinence/constipation, post-surgical pain for women (e.g. hysterectomy, C-section, cancer treatments), post-surgical pain for men (e.g. hernia, prostate, cancer treatments), dyspareunia, vulvadynia and vaginismus.  Treatment may include:  exercises, extensive education regarding your unique problem, breathing training, connective tissue manipulation, visceral mobilization, myofascial release techniques, trigger point release (external or internal, as appropriate), bowel and bladder retraining, state-of-the-art computerized biofeedback for pelvic floor muscle retraining, balloon biodfeedback for pelvic floor opening, dilator therapy for stretching and pelvic floor muscle retraining, heat and electrical stimulation modalities.

Heather Jenny, PT, WCS, GCS, BCB-PMD has over 20 years of specialized training and experience  in treating all types of pelvic floor disorders.  She is board certified in Women's Health through the APTA (American Physical Therapy Association) and is board certified in biofeedback for pelvic muscle dysfunction.  Rest assured that the staff at SPT considers your privacy of the utmost importance!  All of your pelvic floor care will take place with only your therapist in a one-on-one private setting.  However, if you woud like to have a partner or confidant present, we always encourage you to bring them to your appointments.

PRI (Postural Restoration) . . .
Postural Restoration is an effective treatment approach for most musculoskeletal problems typically seen in physical therapy.  This approach to physical therapy treatment takes the entire body into consideration.  The main focus of the treatment is in identifying and correcting common postural patterns found in the human body.  All humans have asymmetry in their anatomy that influences the way they stand, sit, walk, and even breathe.  This asymmetry promotes our body to fall into neuromuscular patterns that negatively influence muscle function and structural alignment.   By addressing the underlying postural patterns, we can more effectively treat the patient, and at the same time teach them how to prevent further injury.

Postural Restoration (often referred to as PRI) treatment is an integrative and holistic approach.  Besides utilizing very specific exercises, manual techniques, and postural recommendations for our patients, we often utilize other professionals to address issues outside the scope of our practice that may be negatively affecting our treatment outcomes.  This is because PRI integrates the influence of muscle, skeletal alignment, breathing, arch support, dental occlusion, and vision on health and wellness.  We often refer patients to podiatrists, dentists, and even optometrists to be fully successful.  PRI trained therapists understand the direct relationship that these different professions have on postural alignment, and how that can affect the musculoskeletal system and physical therapy outcomes.

Eric Pinkall, PT, PRC was awarded the distinction of PRC (Postural Restoration Certification) in 2009, an advanced certification verifying his extensive training, extraordinary interest and devotion to the science of postural adaptations, asymmetries, and their influence on the musculoskeletal system.  Patients with a variety of diagnoses are being successfully treated in an effective and efficient manner using this comprehensive approach.  For more information about PRI, go to: http://posturalrestoration.com/about/
